In 2010, Guidant made INC. 5000’s Fastest Growing Private Companies in America. By 2015, Guidant had allocated $3 billion in small business funding. Today, Guidant has helped fund and support over 30,000 small businesses across the U.S. with their business goals.

The road may not always be smooth, but with some perseverance, you’ll achieve your goals — just like the many Guidant entrepreneurs who used our financing solutions to achieve their own definition of success. Ditching Corporate America for His Own Axe-Throwing Business

Michael Roberts’ business success story starts with being laid off from his corporate job. Rather than getting discouraged by it, Michael opted to use 401(k) business financing — also known as Rollovers for Business Startups (ROBS) — to fund and launch his own axe-throwing business he calls The Horse’s Axe in Dallas, Texas.

Michael Roberts from the Horse's Axe in Denton, Texas.

Guidant was really the number one step for us to fund this company — and if I hadn’t found Guidant, I don’t know that we, The Horse’s Axe, would exist.”

— Michael Roberts, The Horse’s Axe

After signing his lease, however, the COVID-19 pandemic struck — and the world effectively shut down. Once again, Michael was faced with an uncertain situation. But he was nimble as a small business owner and pivoted by ordering boxes of axes his customers could take home after using them to avoid spreading germs. Before you knew it, folks from all around the country were clamoring to get their hands on a Horse’s Axe axe. And the business soon boomed after what had been a slow, uncertain start.

For a business born during unprecedented times, finding success — and even adding another location — is hard to believe. Now, Michael is planning to open more locations and franchise his business. Discover his full story in “Never Axe Your Dream: From Corporate America to Axe-Throwing Success.”

From Financing to Car Cleaning — Family-Style

For Doug Ross, spending his career in financing meant long hours and less time with his family. After 40 years, he decided to change that — and started an auto industry franchise that included his family. Doug opened No-H20 Car Cleaning, and the family business was on a roll. With water-free cleaning and detailing, he could save the environment and offer a successful business model — all while working with his sons.

Guidant just takes care of things that matter. And that’s the most important part of this business that we’ve started together — knowing it’s going to be taken care of.”

— Doug Ross, No-H20 Car Cleaning

When Doug’s franchise won a partnership with Goodyear, his business increased substantially. Now, fleet trucks, vans, and work vehicles from Goodyear get cleaned with No-H20 Car Cleaning.

Doug got access to funding to start No-H20 Car Cleaning thanks to Guidant’s ROBS financing method. With ROBS, Doug financed his business without debt — and was able to withdraw from his retirement funds early with no penalty fees. His experience working with Guidant was so great that he continues to partner with Guidant for Payroll and Bookkeeping and Tax services.

The best part of it all? Doug and his family now spend tons of time together and are huge part of their community. You can read more about Doug and his family car wash business in Working at the No-H20 Car Wash.
